The History
Melem was originally manufactured by the CHEMCO Company, which was founded in July 1977 in Zagreb, Croatia.
Chemco's founder is Ninko Niksic, who was born in Zagreb in 1928. Niksic graduated from the University of Zagreb as a chemical engineer in 1952. He left Zagreb in 1955 to go to Australia, where he lived for 15 years. On this return to Croatia, he began the manufacture of various cosmetic products. Niksic's hobby is golf, which he started playing in Australia. He is the first president of the Croatian Golf Association and remains an honorary president to this day. In 2004, CHEMCO was sold to Neva, a Croatian company located in Zagreb, which is also the contract manufacturer for several name brand, fine German cosmetics.

MelemUSA's president is Michael Muftic, MD, also originally from Zagreb, Croatia. Dr. Muftic immigrated to the United States in 1961, where he has practiced medicine for 40 years as an obstetrician-gynecologist in the Denver area. He now resides permanently high in the Rocky Mountains in Winter Park, Colorado with a second home in the Caribbean. Both venues provide extreme exposure to skin and lips. This experience, coupled with his medical background, resulted in Dr. Muftic's appreciation of the need for a product like Melem. On a trip to Croatia, he discovered Melem in widespread use. He was impressed with Melem's effectiveness and so he founded Melem USA, LLC in 2003 to import and distribute the product to North America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Joined in partnership with Dr. Muftic is his wife, Felicia Muftic, who draws on her career experience as a public relations professional, government official, and consumer affairs director. She is listed in Who's Who in America. Both have been active in outdoor sports. Dr. Muftic is a skier and Felicia Muftic is an equestrienne; both enjoy hanging out on a tropical beach.

Melem was test marketed in Colorado ski areas and the Caribbean for a year before entering Colorado urban area markets and offered nationally on the web. Consumers were enthusiastic about the effectiveness of Melem to combat skin damage caused by the rigors of the Rocky Mountain high, dry, cold climate and Caribbean salt water.air, and sun. The result: Melem is now carried by major supermarket chains and sport shops, convenience stores, hot springs spas, athletic clubs, resorts, pharmacies, tourist and gift shops, and health professional's offices.

In 2005. Melem USA Internet, LLC was incorporated to administer the Internet and telephone sales activities of melemusa.com. The President and CEO of melemusa.com is Ted Muftic, son of Felicia and Dr. Muftic. Ted is an investment banker, entrepreneur, and avid skier and golfer.
